How LinkedIn text formatting works
LinkedIn's post editor doesn't support real bold, italic, or underline formatting — there's no markdown, no HTML, no rich-text toolbar for the body of a post. The "bold" and "italic" text you see in other people's posts isn't actually formatted text at all. It's a different technique: swapping each regular letter for a lookalike character from the Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block (or similar blocks for underline, strikethrough, and small caps). Those characters carry the visual style baked into the character itself, so they render as bold or italic in any text field — LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram bios, Slack — without needing the app to support formatting at all.

Available styles
- Bold / Italic / Bold Italic — Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block. Best for hook lines and headers within a post.
- Underline / Strikethrough — built with Unicode combining characters (U+0332, U+0336) layered under each letter.
- Monospace — fixed-width lookalike letters, useful for code-style callouts.
- Small Caps — full-size capitals with small lowercase-height caps, a subtle way to style a subheading.
- Bubble / Square — circled and squared letters, good for short standalone labels, not full paragraphs.
Best practices for LinkedIn posts
- Use styled text sparingly — a bold hook line or 2–3 section headers. A whole paragraph in styled Unicode is harder to read and some screen readers announce the character names instead of the letters.
- These are genuinely different Unicode characters, not styling applied to normal letters — search and hashtags may not match styled text the way they match plain text.
- Test in the LinkedIn post composer before publishing — rendering can vary slightly across desktop, iOS, and Android.

Is this safe to paste into LinkedIn?
Yes. The output is plain Unicode text — no scripts, no hidden characters, no HTML. It pastes like any other text.
Why do some letters not change with certain styles?
Some Unicode alphanumeric blocks are incomplete — for example, italic Unicode has no styled version for a couple of letters, and small caps reuses a couple of lowercase forms. Those characters are left as-is.
Will this affect accessibility?
Styled Unicode characters are technically different code points than normal letters, so screen readers can read them oddly or skip them. Keep styled text short — headlines and emphasis, not full sentences.
Does this work outside LinkedIn?
